I need help with a soccer commercial I recently saw?
I was watching an ad for I think Nike or puma or some sneaker and the ad features two kids who are picking teams. One kid starts off by picking some world famous player who comes running over to his team, then the next kid also picks a famous player who comes running over to his team etc. Then at one point one of the kids says BeckinMiller (or something to that affect) and the other kid laughs and goes BeckinMiller ha ha ha but all of the sudden some guy comes running in. Who is this guy, what is the joke? By the way the commercial ends with the tag line Jose +10 or something like that. Help cause I really want to know what the heck the joke is. Is this a player from the 70′s or maybe the US????

The player in question was Franz Beckenbauer – a West German International from the Sixties and Seventies, widely recognised as one of the best central defenderd of all time. He was the first man ever to win the World Cup as both captain (1974) and manager/coach (1990).
Yes i have seem the commercial…its an old school player…not syre where from but guessing south america
I saw that too and i’m still trying to grap it – it’s an addidas ad.
This is an Ad of Adidas. In which they are promoting their brand which is a plus sign together with the number of the player. The joke is that they are picking active players, and Beckenbauer is not playing anymore. So it was unlikely for him to appear, but he appears.
A great commercial ad, also look out for the second part where they actualy play the match and it ends in a action similar to the final of World Cup ’66 play in England (In which England claims the cup with an odd goal, supposly the ball never enter).
And then the mother call Jose, and the camera focus to jose taking his ball and leaving his friend alone. (The players vanish as they where part of his imagination, and with out ball they can’t play)
Some people already answered correctly: it is an Adidas ad in which the kids call up some of the best footballers in the world to play with them. “Jose + 10″ means its Jose (the kid)’s team. He and the 10 players he chooses will make up a team of 11.
At one point, Jose calls Franz Beckenbauer, a world class german centre back who played in the 60s and 70s, having retired in the beginning of the 80s. That’s why the other kid laughs, because he has been retired for many years already.
Even so, a young Beckenbauer comes running into the field, wearing the West Germany jersey and the captain’s armband with which he won the 1974 World Cup.
Beckenbauer is still a very influential person in german and european football. He has been the president of Bayern Munchen (where he still holds an important position) and he headed the organization committee for the World Cup 2006.
When the other team realises it is “possible” to call up people like Beckenbauer, Zidane tells the kid to choose Platini, which he does. Michel Platini, a french midfielder who retired in 1987, was also one of the greatest european players of all time. He shows up wearing the shirt with which he played the 1986 World Cup (France was 3rd).
Like Beckenbauer, he’s still important in the football world nowadays: he’s the chairman of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee.
And boy, how I’d love to see those two playing side by side with Zidane!
The above answers are entirely correct (even the part where the ball hits the crossbar of the goal and Oliver Khan, the German goalkeeper, claims it’s not a goal is reminiscent if the 1966 World Cup Final where England won 4-2 against West Germany. The 3rd English goal hit the crossbar and the referee said that it crossed the line-even today no-one is really sure if it did.
In answer to one of your previous questions:
The USA play on the following days: (Germany times)
12 June vs Czech Rep 18:00
17 June vs Italy 21:00
22 June vs Ghana 16:00
They should whip Ghana but would be expected to lose against the Czechs and Italians but like I said in my original answer, they could surprise. The USA are ranked pretty high up on the FIFA rankings (I think 4th) and in qualifying finished above Mexico for the first time in their history so there’s a chance.
Cheers
