im writing a 5 page report about soccer thats due tomorrow. does anyone have important or interesting info about the sport?
some things i need 2 include are:

rules and regulations
officials
game design
famous players

Soccer: From the Start
Soccer is a great game played all around the world by many people of all ages, races, and sizes. It has been with the human race for over 10000 years. There are people who play it for living or just to have a great time. Soccer is a really tremendous sport.
Soccer has come to humans in many shapes and forms. The Mayans played this game to test each other potential or when two people didn’t agree on something they would play. They called this game “Ball.” They played with an animal with an animal skin ball and on a stone court, so they would get wounded often. They didn’t use there hands at all or they would be disqualified. The object of the game was to use your hips to hit the ball through a very high goal on the wall. Usually if someone did this difficult task they won the game. Then the Japanese played a game later called Kemari when you and a friend just passed the ball in the air to one another using only your feet. These were the first soccer games ever played.
Soccer didn’t formally become a sport until 1863. There were no set rules and there weren’t any officials. In 1855 the first official soccer ball was created by Charles Goodyear. This ball was made of vulcanized rubber, and it wasn’t entirely curved so it took peculiar leaps and turns when you kicked it. They didn’t change the ball till the 1930’s where they changed it to smooth but heavy not water proof leather. So when the field was wet the ball was hard to kick and it hurt your foot. The first official soccer shirt was made in 1872 which was made with a lighter fabric and it wasn’t made with heavy leather, so you could run longer without getting tired and weighed down. The gear you use in a soccer game wasn’t made until 1874 because everyone was getting hurt and bruised up so they wanted to stop that. So Samuel Widdowson came up with the idea of shin guards and cleats. Shin guards were a little peace of leather put on your shin so when ever it was kicked it wouldn’t hurt at all and you wouldn’t get injured or phased. Cleats are like regular shoes but they are lighter and they come with spike like points on the bottom so you won’t slide everywhere on the grass and you can run faster because they are lighter. ok well soccer consists of 11 players. (1) the goalie which is in the goals stopping goals he can use his hands. (2) the defenders, there are usually about 3 defenders guarding the goal from the other team they are located a couple of yards in front of the goalie (3) midfielders they help out in the defensive side and in the offensive side, they try to create plays so the attackers can score(4)the attackers/forwards their job is to score goals, brazil is known for always having strong soccer teams and players. the most famous soccer player is pele, he scored over 1000 goals in his career and made soccer very popular. other famous players are ronaldo, ronaldhino, kaka, zidane, henry, etc. Hope this helps good luck
